Holland Hall, modeled on the Mont-Saint-Michel monastery in France, stands as one of the most majestic and iconic buildings on St. Olaf College’s campus.

This W. L. Hall Company project was a design-assist with very little up-front involvement from the architect. We worked with Boldt and St. Olaf College and provided pricing and details independent of any drawing or specifications.

St. Olaf College was thrilled with our design, communication, and the project's outcome.

"Anyone entering Holland Hall today with any memory of the prior iteration will certainly acknowledge it is a transformed space,” Associate Provost and Professor of Music Dan Dressen says. “It has become a beautiful gateway to the college for those who enter it from the community.

The reimagined Holland Hall is a light-filled, collaborative, balanced, and adaptable learning environment that inspires students, faculty, and staff to forward the scholarly enterprise for years to come. The renovation of this unique campus treasure revitalizes the iconic character and authenticity of the building while providing for learning spaces and technology of the future."

Skyfold Performance & Flexibility Without the “Can Everyone Help Move This?”
By Ira Hackner April 23, 2026
In collaboration with Alliiance Architects (Minneapolis) and Sheehy Construction (St. Paul), our team helped bring their meeting room renovation design at the Minneapolis Convention Center to life—delivering Modernfold Acousti-Seal Encore® operable wall systems (STC 54) designed for flexibility, performance, and long-term durability. When most design professionals start thinking about using an operable wall system, they usually focus on the panel. That makes sense as panel type, STC levels, and finishes are important. What about the track? After all, unless the system is motorized, those panels aren't going to move themselves! Some of the panels on this project weigh almost 800 lbs.! By using radius curved track, Modernfold was able to design a wall and track system that will provide easy operation for years to come.
