More Space for More Care — Expansion at CentraCare Plaza in St. Cloud
Here is a look at a current healthcare project we are actively working on, showcasing our expertise in complex glazing, interior systems, and construction coordination—the CentraCare Plaza Expansion in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
We are collaborating closely with RSP Architects (Minneapolis) and McGough Construction (St. Paul) to help bring the CentraCare Plaza Expansion design to life. From the outset, their project teams carefully factored the complex functional and operational requirements of expanded outpatient and specialty care into the overall design, ensuring each building system supports both architectural intent and long-term performance.
Our scope includes installing a comprehensive package of exterior and interior building systems tailored to each structure's unique needs. The CentraCare Plaza expansion was thoughtfully designed to accommodate the continued growth of specialized medical services, including:
Orthopedics – Expanded clinic space along with a new orthopedic urgent care center to support increased patient demand.
Neurosciences – Enlarged facilities designed to enhance neurology and pain management services.
Rehabilitation Services – A new, state-of-the-art outpatient rehabilitation facility for physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Midsota Plastic Surgery – Relocation into the Plaza with upgraded technology and close adjacency to complementary specialty services.
Ambulatory Surgery Center – Additional operating rooms and procedure spaces, supported by a dedicated sterile processing unit to improve efficiency and patient safety.
Kawneer 1600UT Curtain Wall with Viracon® Glass
Both buildings are being constructed with Kawneer 1600UT curtain wall systems paired with high-performance Viracon glass, delivering:
Strong thermal performance and energy efficiency
Durability is well-suited for demanding healthcare environments
Clean, modern aesthetics with abundant natural daylight
Flexibility to accommodate complex geometry, including the sail-shaped PT/OT façade
A key architectural feature currently taking shape is the staircase curtain wall known as “the Lantern.” This prominent glass element will serve as a visual beacon for the campus while providing transparency and connection throughout the stairwell.
RACO Solutions - Interior Framing Systems
Two interior framed glass wall systems are being installed to support transparency while maintaining appropriate separation between clinical and circulation areas. Integrated into these systems are Marlite® Sieva™ wall system panels, which introduce warmth, durability, and a refined finish suitable for patient-focused interiors.
TEEJAY North Horton ICU Sliding Doors. ICU sliding door systems are being incorporated in critical care areas to support smooth operation, efficient staff movement, and patient safety.
Dusted Crystal Frosted Film. Selected glazing locations will receive dusted crystal-frosted film to provide necessary privacy while preserving daylight and visual openness.
Due to limited site access and active campus conditions, this project required careful planning and precise execution:
ASE Building: A tower crane is being utilized to set curtain wall frames and glass at upper elevations. PT/OT Building: A truck crane is being used to install large-format glass along the sail-shaped façade.
This coordinated approach supports safe, efficient installation while minimizing disruption to surrounding operations.
