Design-Assist That Solves Challenges for Edenvale Baptist Church

By the time the operable partition scope was finalized for Edenvale, the precast wall system had already been designed, leaving very little pocket space for storing the partition panels. Rather than requiring significant changes to the building design, our team collaborated closely with BWBR Architects (St. Paul) and Greystone Construction (Shakopee) to develop a solution that worked within the existing structural constraints while maintaining the functionality the owner expected.
Using a 25-foot Modernfold Acousti-Seal® operable partition with Modernfold's #14 Programmed Smart Track System, the panels were configured in a perpendicular dual-stack arrangement. This innovative approach maximized the available pocket space, created room for pocket doors at the opening, and provided an intuitive, user-friendly system that operates smoothly despite the limited storage area.
?The precision-engineered Smart Track System allows each panel to glide effortlessly along its programmed path with minimal operating force, making it easy for facility staff to quickly open or close the partition while ensuring the panels automatically move into the proper storage configuration every time.
Flexibility Without Compromise
Beyond solving a complex design challenge, the Modernfold Acousti-Seal system delivers significant long-term value for the church. When the partition is opened, the gymnasium transforms into an expansive gathering space that accommodates larger community events, athletic activities, and special programs. When closed, the wall quickly creates two separate, functional spaces that can be used simultaneously, maximizing the building's versatility and scheduling flexibility.
Equally important, the Acousti-Seal partition provides exceptional acoustic performance with an STC 52 sound rating, helping minimize sound transfer between the two spaces. This allows multiple activities to occur simultaneously with minimal disruption, creating a more comfortable and functional environment for staff, students, athletes, and members of the congregation.
The partition's clean, attractive appearance also complements the facility's architectural design, demonstrating that high-performance operable walls can enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of a space.
