W. L. Hall Company Woodland Elementary (Osseo School District)

Modernfold Electric Wall Project Spotlight

The Osseo School District reached out to W. L. Hall Company to replace the electric wall for the gymnasium at Woodland Elementary School in Brooklyn Park (contracted directly with the Osseo School district). This is the second wall we have replaced for the District (the first being for Edenbrook Elementary last year).

The electric wall system we installed is a Modernfold 933 E (Electric) wall. This wall has the lower half of the wall as a Wilsonart Laminate finish, with the upper half being Modernfold standard vinyl.

We demo the existing walls, track, and soffit for these projects. We layout our system to mesh in with the existing structure and install our new track, and panels, and in this case, modify the existing soffit to work with our system.

The projects W. L. Hall Company completes for the school district are “Turn-Key” projects, meaning the school does not have to provide anything other than access to the space. We provided the demolition, dumpsters, lifts, and a new electrically operated wall.

The Modernfold 933 E (Electric) wall project was completed on time and on budget. Woodland Elementary's gymnasium wall can now be converted in a matter of minutes to control acoustics and to use their limited space as efficiently as possible.

Operable walls have transformed from functional dividers into aesthetic enhancers of the built environment. On this recent project, we helped the architect balance the need for space flexibility with the desire for the look of a more "permanent" solution. Glass panels with false muntins offer the best of both worlds— the look of a fixed demountable system with the flexibility of operable wall systems.

Due to our "challenging" winter weather conditions, building maintenance professionals frequently schedule glass atrium and curtainwall repair initiatives when spring arrives. Among our current projects in this category are the 1550 Utica Avenue Tower (St. Louis Park), Glass Atrium Roof rehabilitation, and the restoration of curtainwall components at Reflections Condominiums (Bloomington).

Crowe Construction (St. Louis Park) contacted us about replacing the skylights at Artistry on 10th, a modern luxury apartment complex. The existing skylights were extremely leaky, aesthetically unappealing, had poor opacity, and failed to meet current-day structural requirements. They allowed minimal natural light to enter the space, provided little comfort or functionality, and were energy inefficient.
