Carbon 31 had specific needs regarding fire safety and security. It was important for building occupants to be able to see inside an area before they entered. If that opening was part of a fire wall, the door would have to be either solid or have only a limited amount of glass. By using McKeon fire rated products directly adjacent to these openings, our esteemed partners, ESG Architecture and Design and McGough Construction could use full glass doors providing maximum visibility.

Where overhead space was not a problem, a McKeon coiling fire shutter was used. Where headspace was limited, a McKeon D200 fire rated curtain was used. Lastly, were a limited amount of egress was required, a McKeon D200E was used to allow a limited number of occupants to egress out of the space. All McKeon D200 systems have a UL 10D rating for up to 3 hours and a UL 1784 rating for smoke and draft resistance.

Operable walls have transformed from functional dividers into aesthetic enhancers of the built environment. On this recent project, we helped the architect balance the need for space flexibility with the desire for the look of a more "permanent" solution. Glass panels with false muntins offer the best of both worlds— the look of a fixed demountable system with the flexibility of operable wall systems.
